Phipps is seeking an innovative and experienced full-time Director of Sustainability and Capital Projects to develop sustainability initiatives that result in the highest standards of energy-efficiency and healthy built environments by overseeing the implementation of LEED, the Living Building Challenge, SITES, WELL, Net-Zero and other certifications related to sustainability in new and existing facilities, in addition to managing capital projects. The Director will be responsible for overseeing on-going commissioning of all facilities and in implementing and managing sustainability initiatives throughout the organization. The Director of Sustainability and Capital Projects will supervise Facilities Project Managers.

In addition to sustainability efforts related to the built environment, Phipps strives to apply regenerative thinking and focus our sustainability efforts on creating benefits for all stakeholders, valuing the interconnections between people, plants, health, planet, and beauty.

The Director of Sustainability and Capital Projects will work with the President and CEO, as well as other senior leaders, to define and develop sustainability goals and oversee the execution of sustainability plans, policies and programs aimed at achieving them. This will include actively leading projects focused on aligning operations with Phipps’ mission of sustainability, as well as overseeing and managing construction and capital projects.  In addition, the Director of Sustainability will prepare and deliver presentations, representing Phipps at project meetings and within communities throughout the Pittsburgh region. This position plays a critical role in deepening and broadening the impact of Phipps’ sustainability strategies on our campus, in our community, and internationally.

The qualified candidate must have a passion for and experience with sustainable building management, exceptional project management experience and expertise in developing and implementing targeted sustainability standards to both operations and the built environment. Experience with sustainability principles, including LEED, the Living Building Challenge, SITES and WELL is required. LEED Accreditation is required, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Building Design or a related field and 5 years of experience in a senior management level position; Master’s degree preferred; a valid driver’s license is required.
