Homegrown Interns
Homegrown is a Phipps program dedicated to increasing community access to fresh produce, promoting better food choices, and improving the overall health of families and children. We fulfill our goals by installing raised bed vegetable gardens at households in underserved neighborhoods, and by providing mentorship and resources. The Homegrown Interns work under the Garden Installation Coordinator to assist with all aspects of the raised bed installation program: preparing supplies, assembling and setting up beds, removing sod, unloading and moving soil, and clean-up. The interns will also work in community garden spaces and assist with other education and outreach program duties as needed such as workshops, garden check-ins, and the monthly newsletter. The interns will work in Hazelwood, Wilkinsburg, Homewood, Larimer, Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar, and East Hills frequently, completing physical installations and projects.
Phipps is seeking candidates with diverse backgrounds and experience. It is preferred that candidates have previous experience with hands-on landscaping or vegetable gardening. This paid internship is 40 hours per week from May-August 2023.
TO APPLY: Submit a resume and cover letter detailing your experience as it relates to the position to hr@phipps.conservatory.org or Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, One Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Phipps is an equal opportunity employer.
