There's always something new to see and do at Phipps! This weekly blog post provides a run-down of the latest happenings so you can plan your visit. Events listed below require no advance registration unless noted otherwise. 

Open Daily:

  • Summer Flower Show: Gardens of Sound and Motion 
    Featuring contemporary installations by artists from Pittsburgh and beyond, this unique new show immerses you in a colorful world of eye-catching, interactive art, music and sounds.
  • Butterfly Forest
    Celebrate with us and delight in the return of our fluttering pollinator friends and their favorite blooms on the opening of this breathtaking exhibit!
  • Tropical Forest Cuba
    Experience the natural beauty and culture of Cuba, one of the most biodiverse Caribbean island nations on Earth, in our immersive new Tropical Forest exhibit.
  • Make the Switch at Phipps! Green Power Drive
    Join the more than 1,000 families who have switched their home electricity to 100% green power while visiting our Tropical Forest Conservatory and you can receive free Phipps membership!
  • Cub'Art
    On display in our Welcome Center gallery, this new exhibition, presented in partnership with Christine Fréchard Gallery, features the work of four Cuban artists who cite nature as a primary influence in their work.

Mon., July 23:

  • Make-a-Craft Mondays  |  10:30 a.m. – noon
    Create your very own Phipps masterpiece! Every Monday, children are invited to engage in nature-inspired arts-and-crafts projects using recyclable materials.

Tues., July 24:

Wed., July 25:

  • Story Time Wednesdays  |  10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
    Kids will love listening to our storytellers weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics.
  • Landscape Construction  |  6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  |  R.S.V.P. required
    Learn how to detail, specify for and construct simple walls, paving systems and steps, and discuss garden structures and drainage..

Thurs., July 26: 

  • Story Time Thursdays  |  10:30 a.m.
    Kids will love listening to our storytellers weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics.

  • Nature Lab Open Hours  |  11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
    Phipps' revolutionary non-toxic Nature Lab is now open for you to discover.
  • Urban Beekeeping |  1:30 p.m.
    Learn all about urban beekeeping from Burgh Bees in the Tropical Forest Conservatory. 

Sun., July 29:

  • Care for Summer Perennials  |  1:30 p.m. 
    Learn how to care for summer perennials with Tim Choltco in the Tropical Forest Conservatory. 
  • Sunday Music Series: Penn Trafford Community Flute Choir  |  1:30 – 3:30 p.m. 
    Phipps is proud to present live music from the Penn Trafford Community Flute Choir, giving you a unique opportunity to experience the visual beauty of the gardens enhanced by the magic of melody.
