There's always something new to see and do at Phipps! This weekly blog post provides a run-down of the latest happenings so you can plan your visit. Events listed below require no advance registration unless noted otherwise. 

Open Daily:

  • Tropical Forest Cuba
    Experience the natural beauty and culture of Cuba, one of the most biodiverse Caribbean island nations on Earth, in our immersive new Tropical Forest exhibit.
  • Make the Switch at Phipps! Green Power Drive
    Join the more than 1,000 families who have switched their home electricity to 100% green power while visiting our Tropical Forest Conservatory and you can receive free Phipps membership!
  • Petals and Pollinators: A Youth Art Exhibition
    Enjoy multimedia artworks depicting fictional flowers and their co-evolution with specific pollinators as created by middle and high school students involved in Phipps’ Fairchild Challenge.
  • Natives for Your Yard: A Botanical Art Exhibit 
    Stop by the Phipps Garden Center in Mellon Park to see our latest botanical art exhibit featuring plants native to southwestern Pennsylvania that you may recognize from your own backyard!

Mon., April 16:

  • Make-a-Craft Mondays  |  10:30 a.m. – noon
    Create your very own Phipps masterpiece! Every Monday, children are invited to engage in nature-inspired arts-and-crafts projects using recyclable materials.

Wed., April 18:

  • Story Time Wednesdays  |  10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
    Kids will love listening to our storytellers weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics.

Fri., April 20:

  • Earth Day Celebration  | Today – Mon., April 23
    To celebrate the planet and our important role in keeping it healthy, we’re presenting four days of fun themed Discovery Programs, activities, interactive presentations and more.
  • Pollinator Pot-a-Plant  |  10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    Kids can pot their own pollinator-friendly plant to care for at home.
  • Discovery Station: Reduce, Resuse, Recycle  |  10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    Get helpful tips and information on how to reduce waste and recycle at home.
  • Environmental Film Series: Young Voices for the Planet |  7 – 9 p.m.
    Join us in Botany Hall Auditorium for a screening of two short films collectively titled Young Voices for the Planet featuring youth speaking out, creating solutions, changing laws and changing society as they reduce the carbon footprint of their homes, schools and communities.
  • Enjoy the gardens by twilight; we're open until 10 p.m.!

Sat., April 21:

  • Butterfly Forest  |  9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.  | Opens today!
    Celebrate with us and delight in the return of our fluttering pollinator friends and their favorite blooms on the opening of this breathtaking exhibit!
  • Used Bulb Sale  |   9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
    Make your Spring Flower Show memories last for seasons to come by taking the beauty home.
  • Eco-Artist Earth Day Crafts  |  10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    Create your very own Earth Day masterpiece! Children are invited to engage in nature-inspired arts-and-crafts projects using natural and recyclable materials.
  • Nature Lab Open Hours  |  11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
    Phipps' revolutionary non-toxic Nature Lab is now open for you to discover. 
  • Meet a Scientist  |  1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
    Meet real scientists and learn all about their fascinating work.

Sun., April 22:
