There's always something new to see and do at Phipps! This weekly blog post provides a run-down of the latest happenings so you can plan your visit. Events listed below require no advance registration unless noted otherwise. 

Open Daily (Extended Hours 9:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.):

  • LAST CHANCE: Winter Flower Show and Light Garden: Days of Snow and Nights Aglow 
    Through Sun., Jan. 8 only, the most magical show of the year takes place right here! With glowing evergreens, festive poinsettias, illuminated glass and our stunning outdoor Winter Light Garden, Phipps will sparkle and shine brighter than ever.
  • Candlelight Evenings  
    Winter Flower Show is even more enchanting at night as glowing candles light the walkways and live music fills the air.
  • Garden Railroad: 200 Years of Pittsburgh
    For Pittsburgh's bicentennial, ten miniature railroad snapshots of different time periods in city history are brought to life with interactive stations that adults and children will delight in. Visitors can turn a hand crank to elevate the Duquesne Incline or push a button to send Three Rivers Stadium into raucous applause and illumination as the Buccos play ball. 
  • Tropical Forest Congo
    Explore some of Africa’s lushest landscapes and see botanical specimens never before showcased at Phipps.
  • LAST CHANCE: Ashley Cecil, Augustina Droze and Deirdre Murphy: Emergent Patterns
    Through Sun., Jan. 8 only, a colorful exhibition in the CSL Green Gallery showcases three remarkable artists whose works explore patterns of collective behavior in nature through painting, sculpture and textile design.
  • Highlights: Fall and Winter Flower Shows 1995 – 2015
    In this special photo exhibit in our Welcome Center, explore selected highlights from the past two decades of exuberant fall and winter shows.

Mon., Jan. 2:

  • Make-a-Craft Mondays  |  10:30 a.m. – noon
    Create your very own Phipps masterpiece! Every Monday, children are invited to engage in nature-inspired arts-and-crafts projects using recyclable materials.

Wed., Jan. 4:

  • Story Time Wednesdays  |  10:30 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 1:30 p.m.
    Kids will love listening to our storytellers weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics.

Thurs., Jan. 5:

  • Biophilia: Pittsburgh  |  5:30 p.m.  |  R.S.V.P. Required
    This month's Biophilia: Pittsburgh meeting will feature President of Communitopia Joylette Portlock, who will lead a discussion on "FutureFest 2017," a new kind of Earth Day event.

Fri., Jan. 6:

  • Pot-a-Plant Fridays  |  10:30 a.m. – noon
    Every Friday, children are introduced to the important connections between people, plants and the planet by potting their own fun plants to take home.

Sat., Jan. 7:

Sun., Jan. 8:

  • African Foods  |  1:30 p.m.
    Join Ola Appetit Catering to learn how African food has been translated in the Americas.
