There's always something new to see and do at Phipps! This weekly blog post provides a run-down of the latest happenings so you can plan your visit. Events listed below require no advance registration unless noted otherwise. 

Open Daily:

  • Summer Flower Show: Gardens of Sound and Motion 
    Featuring contemporary installations by artists from Pittsburgh and beyond, this unique new show immerses you in a colorful world of eye-catching, interactive art, music and sounds.
  • Butterfly Forest
    Celebrate with us and delight in the return of our fluttering pollinator friends and their favorite blooms on the opening of this breathtaking exhibit!
  • Tropical Forest Cuba
    Experience the natural beauty and culture of Cuba, one of the most biodiverse Caribbean island nations on Earth, in our immersive new Tropical Forest exhibit.
  • Make the Switch at Phipps! Green Power Drive
    Join the more than 1,000 families who have switched their home electricity to 100% green power while visiting our Tropical Forest Conservatory and you can receive free Phipps membership!
  • Member Appreciation Month
    Phipps is dedicating the month of August to our members with a quartet of fun exclusives! Join us for our Member Bring-a-Friend Days on Mon., Aug 6 and Thurs., Aug 23 and Member Double Discount Days in the Gift Shop on Sun., Aug 12 and Thurs., Aug 23.
  • Cub'Art
    On display in our Welcome Center gallery, this new exhibition, presented in partnership with Christine Fréchard Gallery, features the work of four Cuban artists who cite nature as a primary influence in their work.
  • Petals and Pollinators: A Youth Art Exhibition
    In the Center for Sustainable Landscapes Green Gallery, enjoy multimedia artworks depicting fictional flowers and their co-evolution with specific pollinators as created by middle and high school students involved in Phipps’ Fairchild Challenge environmental competition.

Mon., July 30:

  • Make-a-Craft Mondays  |  10:30 a.m. – noon
    Create your very own Phipps masterpiece! Every Monday, children are invited to engage in nature-inspired arts-and-crafts projects using recyclable materials.

Wed., Aug. 1:

  • Story Time Wednesdays  |  10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
    Kids will love listening to our storytellers weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics.

Thurs., Aug. 2: 

  • Story Time Thursdays  |  10:30 a.m.
    Kids will love listening to our storytellers weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics.
  • Biophilia: Pittsburgh  |  6 p.m. |  R.S.V.P. required
    Biophilia: Pittsburgh meets monthly to discuss how citizens can strengthen the bond between people and nature through education and action. Registration is required but events are free to attend. Join the conversation!

Fri., Aug. 3: 

  • Pot-a-Plant Fridays  |  10:30 a.m. – noon
    Kids can pot their own plant to care for at home.
  • Homewood Good Food Festival  |  2 – 6 p.​m.​  |  7100 Block of Kelly Street in Homewood
    Held in conjunction with the Harambee Black Arts Festival, this afternoon of family fun celebrates food grown and prepared in Homewood by showcasing local farmers, gardeners, restaurants and caterers.
  • Enjoy the gardens by twilight; we're open until 10 p.m.!

Sat., Aug. 4:

  • Healthy Eating for Kids  |  11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
    Learn all about healthy eating for kids in the Tropical Forest Conservatory. 
  • Garlic Is Good for You  |  1:30 p.m.
    Explore the health benefits of eating garlic.
  • Nature Lab Open Hours  |  11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
    Phipps' revolutionary non-toxic Nature Lab is now open for you to discover.
