There's always something new to see and do at Phipps! This weekly blog post provides a run-down of the latest happenings so you can plan your visit. Events listed below require no advance registration unless noted otherwise. 

Open Daily:

  • Summer Flower Show: The Hidden Life of Trolls
    Featuring one-of-a-kind displays of trolls inspired by the mythological creatures found in folklore and pop culture, this immersive, interactive exhibit is unlike anything Phipps has displayed before.
  • Celebrating John Bauer, Painter of Trolls
    In association with Jönköpings Läns Museum, Phipps presents selected works of John Bauer, Swedish painter and illustrator who focused on landscapes and mythology.
  • Planets Earth Virtual Exhibit
    A dynamic exhibit at the Center for Sustainable Landscapes (and now online) addresses the pressing environmental issues of our time and proposes a new way of thinking about how to solve them.
  • Wild About Geometry: A Virtual Youth Art Exhibit
    This exhibit features artwork made by area middle school students participating in the Phipps Fairchild Challenge. In this challenge titled Wild About Geometry, students discovered geometric shapes and repetitions in nature.

Mon., June 21: 

  • Tour of Italy: A Night in Umbria | 6 – 7:30 p.m.
    Join Chef Justin Melnick for a culinary tour of Italy! Chef Justin, trained in Italy, will take us on a journey from region to region throughout Italy. You’ll learn to cook the Italian way right from your very own kitchen and learn what makes each region unique. Join us on Zoom for a live cooking class. We’ll send you the grocery list prior so you can cook along with us and have dinner on the table by 7:30!
  • Trellising and Other Vertical Growing Strategies | 6:30 – 8 p.m.
    When growing space is limited, the only direction to grow is up! Whether you grow in-ground, in raised beds, in planters or in pots, there's a trellis or vertical growing strategy that will fit your needs. We'll discuss inexpensive structures and strategies for getting the most out of your growing spaces this year!

Tues., June 22:

  • Everything You Need to Know About Sourdough! | 7 – 8 p.m.
    Join Chloe Newman of Crust Worthy Pittsburgh to learn everything you need to know about sourdough, from the starter to crumbs of baked goods! Week one, Chloe will walk us through making your own starter at home and answer all of your sourdough questions. Come back in week two for delicious sourdough recipes. 

Wed., June 23:

  • Virtual Story Time | 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
    Join us for stories, sing-alongs and fun activities you can do from home each Wednesday!
  • Taste of the Season: June: Celebrate the Solstice | 6 – 7:30 p.m.
    June brings the summer solstice! To celebrate, Chef Rachel will share a delicious meal of grilled salmon and seasonal veggie skewers and a bright salad.

Thurs., June 17:

  • Nurturing Nature Virtual Summer Camp: Sustainable Together | 1:30  – 2:30 p.m.
    Sustainability doesn’t just look like recycling plastics and driving electric cars — there is so much more to it. Explore how topics like food and education equality have an impact on the health of our people and our planet. Learn about how helping your community can benefit the world. You hold the power to make a difference!
