In March 2015, the Nature Lab at Phipps, one of the nation’s first sustainable modular classrooms, opened to the public. Fabricated locally by EcoCraft Homes, the Nature Lab shows what healthy spaces look like for kids and calls attention to the importance of providing healthy learning environments for children. In 2016, with the help of apoidea apiary, Phipps installed an observational beehive in the Nature Lab that allows kids to safely get nose to antenna with the bees and discover the importance of pollinators and the plight that they face. In May 2017, the Nature Lab achieved the esteemed Living Building Challenge™ Petal Certification from the International Living Future Institute.
