In 2024, Phipps completed the systematic, room-by-room renovation of  the historic glasshouse —replacing outdated equipment and restoring the glasshouse to its original appearance that visitors would have seen on opening day in 1893 — a project that took more than two decades.   Phipps also made changes to further our environmental mission and the glasshouse decarbonization initiative by updating from steam to hot water heat, meaning clean, renewable power will eliminate the use of fossil fuels. 

The renovations will allow the next several generations of Pittsburghers to experience the beauty of Phipps, as well as contribute to the health of the ecosystem in which we are nested.
