Weddings Under Glass: Johanna and Chapin

Like so many modern romances, Johanna and Chapin met online through a dating app. While taking pictures during Johanna’s birthday celebration, Chapin surprised her with a proposal!  The couple’s birthday is just one day apart and their proposal anniversary now falls right on the day between. the couple’s birthdays, they now celebrate the day in between as Juntos Day, or togetherness day, to commemorate the happy occasion!

The couple’s love of nature drew them to choose Phipps as the perfect wedding venue. The Tropical Forest reminded them of the lush landscapes of South America. Chapin grew up in Pittsburgh and Johanna is from Colombia, so being married at an iconic Pittsburgh landmark among tropical foliage felt like the perfect way to honor their backgrounds. Johanna and Chapin said their favorite part of being married at Phipps was the stunning backdrop saying that, “Phipps is naturally breathtaking, so every corner became the perfect backdrop for photos. We also loved that the Tropical Forest already feels magical on its own, so we didn't need a lot of extra decorations to make it feel special.”

They were married in early May on the Tropical Forest Patio in front of the waterfall followed by cocktail hour in the Tropical Forest. Their wedding was inspired by a butterfly garden featuring a myriad of flowers complimented by a soft pastel color palette. A highlight of the reception was the incredible salsa band, the Noel Quintana Band , whose live music kept everyone dancing all night long! They also offered live portraits by Izzy Does Art which provided a lovely keepsake for guests to remember the special night.

The couple has planned a relaxing Nantucket vacation before starting their next adventure. Johanna will be graduating with her dual MBA-MSUS master’s degree this summer before moving to San Francisco for Chapins career. They will be settling to life on the West Coast looking forward to a beautiful honeymoon in Hawaii next year.
