#bioPGH: Amphibian Adventure!

By Dr. Maria Wheeler-Dubas, Research and Science Education Outreach Manager

Biophilia NetworkA resource of Biophilia: Pittsburgh, #bioPGH is a weekly blog and social media series that aims to encourage both children and adults to reconnect with nature and enjoy what each of our distinctive seasons has to offer.

Rainy nights in the spring are some of the most surprisingly perfect moments to explore the outdoors. Over the past few weeks, a few evenings have seen the temperature hover just above 50 degrees Fahrenheit, with a steady rain or drizzle; and these soupy conditions are perfect for amphibian spawning! Vernal pools, also called ephemeral ponds, are the perfect habitat for frog and salamander breeding – come along with me on an adventure to check out why!
