Pennsylvania Fungi and Their Natural Habitat

Enjoy beautiful illustrations of the native fungi species southwestern Pennsylvania!
Now open at Phipps' Garden Center in Mellon Park, nature lovers of all ages can enjoy stunning illustrations of fungi species in diverse habitats.
Pennsylvania is home to thousands of fungi species, thriving in diverse habitats ranging from mature hardwood forests to urban mulch, particularly in spring and fall. Key habitats include decaying wood (e.g., oak, ash), forest floors, and symbiotic relationships with trees. Fungi are a distinct kingdom of eukaryotic organisms—separate from plants and animals—that are essential for breaking down organic matter and recycling nutrients in ecosystems.
Pennsylvania Fungi and Their Natural Habitat is open now through Fri., Sept. 18 NOTE: This exhibit will move from the Garden Center to Phipps' Welcome Center beginning in October and will run through the first week of January 2027.
