About the Chefs
Emily Larsen
Emily Larsen is a private chef, culinary educator and founder of Spilling the Soup LLC. She has worked diligently with the local non-profit community here in Pittsburgh to boost culinary education and decrease food insecurity. Her virtual and in-person cooking classes aim to bring joy, confidence, smiles and delicious food to every kitchen.
Doug Heilman
Doug Heilman is a life-long resident of Western Pennsylvania, and self-described foodie. Doug holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences along with many professional certifications from a 20+ year career in Learning & Development. Combining a love of educating and cooking, Doug established a social media presence in 2015, aptly named 'Doug Cooking', and in 2024, he launched The Pittsburgh Dish, a weekly regional food podcast. Doug competed on Season 3 of The Great American Recipe on PBS and is a regular kitchen contributor on CBS Pittsburgh’s daily lifestyle show, Pittsburgh Today Live.
Alekka Sweeney
Alekka Sweeney is a Pittsburgh based chef who brings over 25 years of culinary and pastry knowledge to students of all levels and ages. Alekka was classically trained in French pastry at Le Cordon Bleu and holds a degree in culinary arts from the Pennsylvania Institute for the Culinary Arts. Chef Alekka has worked in restaurants, as a private chef and has over 15 years of teaching experience.
