A Pittsburgh tradition for more than three decades, the Great Plant Auction is a lively, fun affair for a good cause. On Fri., May 3, Phipps Garden Center in Mellon Park will transform into an auction house where plant lovers can bid on unique varieties of trees, shrubs and perennials, as well as garden accessories. Benefiting Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens’ education programs, the 35th edition of this annual event is supported by local garden centers, businesses, specialty mail order nurseries, garden clubs and individual donors.
The silent auction portion of the sale begins at 6 p.m. and the live auction begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission costs $30 for Phipps members and $35 for nonmembers, and includes wine and hors d'oeuvres. Register online or call 412/441-4442, ext. 3925.
