In with the Interns at Phipps

By Lorren Kezmoh, Outreach Coordinator, Phipps Science Education and Research

From tending garden beds and arranging exhibit displays to whipping up their own unique culinary creations and learning about local and global environmental issues, our high school interns were kept very busy this summer here at Phipps! Our interns enjoyed working outside with our wonderful horticulture staff, visiting sustainable organizations throughout the city, and cooking every week with our friends at Slow Food Pittsburgh. We loved having these enthusiastic students with us all summer and can’t wait until next year. Until then, we wanted to share what our interns had to say about their time working here at Phipps:

"This internship was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I learned so much, met so many amazing people, and experienced so many new things. I'm sad to be leaving but I know I'll be coming back eventually because I couldn't stay away if I tried. I'm so excited to see where my new knowledge takes me. Thank you to the entire Phipps community for everything!" - Kiya Blye

"This summer with Phipps has been full of wonderful people, experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime." - Aaron Sledge

"This internship has meant the world to me for two summers. I know all the time I have put into Phipps Conservatory was worthwhile and I appreciate all the time, effort, and funding that has been put into this internship and me." - Dani Einloth

"This internship improved how we interact with our surroundings. Communicating with nature is a better way of learning for our future. Through this internship I learned that how you live your life really influences your mind for a better future." - Hawa Mada

"My summer at Phipps is truly one that I will always remember and I met seven very great people that I will never forget!" - Alisha Alexander

"I really liked this internship. I felt like I learned a lot and it really changed me. I never had a favorite part of this internship because each part of it taught me something. Whether it was about myself or something about the environment, I get to leave looking at the world in a new way. I'm glad that I got the chance to work with other interns and make new friends. I'm glad I got this internship." - Doreen Smith

Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, and students who made this summer possible!
