Phipps' beloved Agave americana is making its final appearance in the glasshouse with a big bloom before its slow decline. Currently growing so large that Phipps staff had to remove a glass pane from the Desert Room ceiling, this big bloom signifies that this plant is about to reach the end of its life, meaning that Phipps will have to remove the Agave once the bloom reaches its peak. Although we're saying goodbye to this gentle giant after more than 50 years of beauty, this is a natural process and Agaves ensure their legacy by producing “pups,” or offshoots, which are already visible around the plant. On Fri., July 24, we're celebrating this stunning specimen with a variety of exiciting activities:

  • Sip delicious agave inspried cocktails and mocktails from a cashless (credit card only) bar;
  • Enjoy the sounds of a strolling mariachi band;
  • Learn about the agave and the legacy of this plant with Phipps horticulturists;
  • Explore the stunning Summer Flower Show: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The fun doesn't stop there! The first 300 guests to arrive at 5 p.m. or later can receive a complimentary potted succulent, a splendid seasonal addition to your home decor.
