Join us for a Nature Talk on 10 Mushrooms Everyone Should Know with Barbora Batokova!

Join guest speaker Barbora Batokova, President of the Western Pa. Mushroom Club, for a visual introduction to some of the most recognizable and ecologically important mushrooms of eastern North America. You’ll learn about 10 important mushrooms for our region, their key identifying features, the ecology and habitat they prefer and whether they are edible! 

Flannel Roots Farm will be present with delicious mushroom treats, featuring a blend of cultivated and foraged mushrooms, all available for purchase. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in vibrant conversation about the numerous ways mushrooms can enrich our lives, plus take home new recipes and ideas for incorporating these versatile fungi into your meals!

The evening will open with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. during which guests can tour the Conservatory. At 6:30 p.m., the talk will begin in the Special Events Hall.

About the Speaker

Barbora Batokova

Barbora Batokova is a mycologist, photographer, writer, and educator dedicated to bringing the kingdom of fungi into the public spotlight. She is the author of Hunting Mushrooms: How to Safely Identify, Forage, and Cook Wild Fungi, President of the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club, contributor to statewide fungal biodiversity and conservation initiatives, and creator of @fungiwoman, a popular educational platform on Instagram and Facebook followed by more than 168,000 mushroom enthusiasts worldwide. Her work combines scientific accuracy, visual storytelling, and practical field experience to help audiences better understand and appreciate fungi.
