- SUPER. NATURAL. Glass Art by Jason Gamrath
Ten years after Chihuly at Phipps, master glass artist Jason Gamrath brings a new twist to the art form, creating remarkably accurate botanical pieces on a massive scale, standing up to 14 feet tall.
- Butterfly Forest
Watch as gorgeous butterflies emerge from their chrysalises to flutter among the blooms. One may even land on you!
- Make the Switch at Phipps! Green Power Drive
Switch your home electricity to 100% green power while visiting our Tropical Forest Conservatory and you can receive free Phipps membership!
- Companion Plants: A Youth Art Exhibition
In the CSL Green Gallery, enjoy artistic depictions of beneficial plant relationships created by high school students for the Fairchild Challenge environmental competition.
- Tropical Forest Congo
Explore some of Africa’s lushest landscapes and see botanical specimens never before showcased at Phipps.
Mon., May 22:
- Make-a-Craft Mondays | 10:30 a.m. – noon
Create your very own Phipps masterpiece! Every Monday, children are invited to engage in nature-inspired arts-and-crafts projects using recyclable materials.
Wed., May 24:
- Story Time Wednesdays | 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Kids will love listening to our storytellers weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics.
- Protecting and Promoting Pollinators | 7 – 9 p.m. | Phipps Garden Center | R.S.V.P. required
Join our integrated pest management specialist, Ryan Gott, to explore many kinds of pollinators, the problems they face in the world today and what we can do to help them thrive.
Thurs., May 25:
- Jazz in the Garden | 7 – 10 p.m. | R.S.V.P. required
Beat the summer heat with cool tunes and full blooms as The Benny Benack Big Band brings classic jazz to our lush, colorful Outdoor Garden at this popular annual event.
Fri., May 26:
- Pot-a-Plant Fridays | 10:30 a.m. – noon
Every Friday, children are introduced to the important connections between people, plants and the planet by potting their own fun plants to take home.
Sat., May 27:
- SEED Classroom and Observational Beehive Open Hours | 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Phipps' revolutionary non-toxic SEED Classroom and observational beehive are now open for you to discover. Drop in!
- Discovery Garden Day | 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Bring the whole family to our Children's Discovery Garden for hands-on, sensory fun. Together, you’ll learn about plants and their pollinators through games, a potting station, crafts and more — all free with Conservatory admission.
- Origami | 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Make paper flowers with the Origami Club of Pittsburgh
Sun., May 28:
- Keep that Country Spirit | 1:30 p.m.
Learn how to make patriotic flower arrangements.
