In-Person Science Communication Workshops

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens seeks graduate students and other professionals in all STEM fields to participate in a program designed to help scientists communicate their research effectively with the public.

What does the program entail?
Take part in a science communication workshop on-site at Phipps. Facilitated by the research and science education department, this learning opportunity is designed to help you develop tools for communicating scientific concepts to the public. Small class sizes ensure individualized feedback and the opportunity to practice with peers. Participants will also have the opportunity to come back to Phipps for an optional session to prototype a tabling display for an outreach opportunity at Phipps. Topics covered in the workshop will include jargon management, understanding your audience, concise messaging, storytelling and strategies for engaging the public.

What are the benefits of participating?

  • Work with informal education experts to develop your skills in communicating science to the public.
  • Network with colleagues from multiple disciplines who are equally committed to sharing their work with the public.
  • Local participants may have opportunities to share their work with Phipps guests at special events.
