We are offering an exciting lineup of field trips for school, homeschool, scout and other education groups. While meeting Pennsylvania standards, these programs use botany and ecology to inspire learning. Field trips can be modified to meet the needs of individual groups. Each field trip generally consists of a 30-minute learning session followed by a self-guided tour.

In-person field trip admission rates and regulations are as follows:

  • Summer community engagement field trip programming is offered weekdays between June 24 – July 12 and July 22 – August 2, 2024
  • $8.50 per student
  • Includes a 30-minute field trip and self-guided tour
  • 1 adult admitted free for every 8 youth; $17 for each additional adult
  • Outdoor lunch spaces available for groups less than 120 youth; $30.00 per 30 youth for lunch reservation
  • Phipps memberships are not transferable to youth field trip programming.

Pollination Station

Grades Pre-k – 2 and 3 – 5

Dive into the hive to learn about the anatomy of bees, butterflies and other pollinators! Did you know that bees help us grow food and help our native ecosystems thrive? Play a game to discover the different jobs they have and explore how they pollinate plants.This program includes a 30-minute lesson and self-guided touring map along with post activities to encourage continued enrichment.

Leaves of Phipps

Grades Pre-k – 2 and 3 – 6

Here at Phipps, we love plants – especially the form and function of plants in various habitats! Begin by learning about different parts of plants and amazing plant adaptions.This lesson is followed by a self-guided tour of the Conservatory where students can observe the adaptions, several different habitats and plant growth in action. This program includes a 30-minute lesson, self-guided touring map along with post activities to encourage continued enrichment. 

Tour-Only Options

As alternatives to our more formal field trip options, we also offer docent-led and self-guided tours.

Free membership admission is not applicable and non-transferrable for group tours, field trips and certain other special events due to additional programming and expenses related to these visits. We ask that you contact our membership hotline at 412-315-0656 for more information on membership.
