- Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: Out of This World
Blast off into a galaxy of garden goodness in this stellar new show as you enjoy the colors and shapes of hundreds of otherworldly orchids and our cosmic collection of tropical bonsai.
- Garden Railroad: Farms, Food and Family
Discover farms that impact our daily lives in our fun and family-friendly Garden Railroad.
- Ikebana and Suiseki: Welcome Center Art Exhibit
In this new exhibit in our Welcome Center Gallery, view Ikebana flower arrangements and suiseki, Japanese viewing stones.
- Wish You Were Here: A Youth Art Exhibition
In the Center for Sustainable Landscapes Green Gallery, enjoy a series of paintings by participating Fairchild Challenge high school students.
- Planets Earth
A dynamic exhibit at the Center for Sustainable Landscapes addresses the pressing environmental issues of our time and proposes a new way of thinking about how to solve them.
- Tropical Forest Cuba
Experience the natural beauty and culture of Cuba, one of the most biodiverse Caribbean island nations on Earth, in our immersive new Tropical Forest exhibit.
- Make the Switch at Phipps! Green Power Drive
Join the more than 1,000 families who have switched their home electricity to 100% green power while visiting our Tropical Forest Conservatory and you can receive free Phipps membership!
Mon., Feb. 17:
- Make-a-Craft Monday | 10 a.m. – noon
Create your very own Phipps masterpiece! On Make-a-Craft Mondays, children are invited to engage in nature-themed arts-and-crafts projects.
- Meatless Monday | 6 – 9 p.m.
Cutting out meat just once a week is good for both you and the planet. It can reduce the risk of preventable chronic illnesses and reduce your carbon footprint. Join Chef Anthony for some delicious new meatless meals for any day of the week! Meatless Monday has never been so delicious!
Tues., Feb. 18:
- Mardi Gras Dinner | 6 – 9 p.m.
Mardi Gras is right around the corner — celebrate the New Orleans way! Chef Mike of Roux Orleans Catering will teach you how to cook a special Mardi Gras dinner, including the perfect blackened catfish po’boy and the dirtiest of rice. Join us and laissez les bon temps rouler!
Wed., Feb. 19:
- Story Time Wednesday | 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Come to Phipps for story time among the flowers. Kids will love listening to our storytellers weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics.
- Nature of Place Symposium: Opening Reception and Keynote | 6 – 9 p.m.
Network with peers and colleagues, enjoy bites and drinks and hear Keynote Speaker Dr. Michelle Kondo deliver her speech, "Nature-Based Strategies for Disease, Injury and Violence Prevention."
- Fermentation Series: Medicinally-Infused Fermented Beverages | 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Understand the nutritional benefits of fermented foods and beverages and learn how to infuse different types of fermented products with herbs. Specific herbs and their medicinal properties will be highlighted, as well as the best methods of creating vibrant, fermented products. You will walk away with natural soda to ferment at home, as well as a water kefir and kombucha culture.
Thurs., Feb. 20:
- Nature of Place Symposium | 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
At Phipps’ first Nature of Place Symposium, this concept finds a new expression as leaders across disciplines come together to discuss the influence and impact of biophilia on their work and the work of the future.
Fri., Feb. 21:
- Pot-a-Plant Friday | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Kids can pot their own plant to care for at home.
- Environmental Film Series: Let Them Eat Dirt: The Hunt for our Kids' Missing Microbes | 7 – 9 p.m.
Join us in the Botany Hall Auditorium at Phipps for a screening of Let Them Eat Dirt: The Hunt for our Kids' Missing Microbes.
Sat., Feb. 22:
- A Celebration of Seeds: Eighth Annual Seed and Plant Swap | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in Oakland
Our annual Seed and Plant Swap features a bustling seed exchange, conversations with expert gardeners, hands-on activities for children and teens, and a selection of free seeds and plants for the public. The fun takes place at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh on 4400 Forbes Avenue in Oakland, just down the street from Phipps!
- What is an Orchid? | 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Learn all about orchids in this free with admission public program!
- Gluten Free Date Night: Pizza with Toppings | 6 – 8 p.m.
Make a multi-grain pizza crust with fresh toppings and a side salad. All items will be gluten free and naturally vegan. This will be a hands-on class.
Sun., Feb. 23:
- Tropical Sundays | 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Take 50% off admission every Sunday in February when you wear a tropical-inspired shirt to Phipps.
- Bonsai | 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
