New Displays Highlight Phipps' Incredible Orchid Collection and Classically Trained Bonsai
Pittsburgh, PA – Starting Sat., Jan. 10, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens provides guests with endless beauty in Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: Blooming with Love. Captivating romantic displays provide the perfect warm escape from Pittsburgh's winter chill as gorgeous arrays of beautiful orchids and fascinating bonsai fill the glasshouse. Guests will celebrate love while being immersed in ephemeral and entrancing nature.
Exhibit Features
- Strike a pose in front of the striking neon pink LED Love sign framed by outstanding orchids and bonsai in the Welcome Center
- Admire a heartwarming white gazebo among soft pink and white flora in Palm Court
- Gaze upon striking 8-foot orchid towers in the Sunken Garden featuring bright pink, yellow and orange
- See a vibrant color scheme of magenta, chartreuse and violet in the Broderie Room
- Explore a houseplant heaven as you learn about pet-friendly plants, unusual leaves and more in the Victoria Room
- Journey through the Serpentine Room to view numerous terrific tropical bonsai and cast a vote for your favorite specimen

Guests can also enjoy the displays in our Garden Railroad: The Age of Dinosaurs. This whimsical exhibit allows guests to journey through each distinct period of the Mesozoic Era — Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. Guests can watch a group of dinosaurs moving through greenery while listening to the powerful sound of a dinosaur roar! In addition to these features, the plant evolution through the different time periods will be on display, from ferns, cycads, and conifers to the first flowering plants.
Plus, illuminate your visit by stopping by our Winter Light Garden for Festive Nights of Winter Lights. To celebrate the success of Phipps Holiday Magic, we’re letting our glowing outdoor gardens shine for a few more nights of festive wonder. On select Friday and Saturday evenings in January, guests can enjoy a serene stroll along luminous orbs, trees, towers and fountains of light in our Outdoor and Children’s Discovery Gardens.
Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: Blooming with Love runs Jan. 10 – March 15, Garden Railroad: The Age of Dinosaurs runs until March 8, and Festive Nights of Winter Lights runs Fridays and Saturdays from 5 – 10 p.m. from Jan. 9 – 31.
