Van Gogh Tribute Week Begins July 29 at Phipps Conservatory
Celebrate the life and legacy of artist Vincent van Gogh through docent-led tours, movie night, kids activities, commemorative print keepsake and more, included with admission.

Pittsburgh, PA — Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens hosts Van Gogh Tribute Week, a special weeklong tribute to be held Mon., July 29 – Sun., Aug. 4 honoring the life and legacy of Vincent van Gogh on the 129th anniversary of his passing. Van Gogh’s dramatic landscapes and still-life paintings defined an artistic era and forged a new visual language to connect with the natural world. During Van Gogh Tribute Week, guests can experience Phipps’ Van Gogh in Bloom exhibit in addition to a series of events and activities centered on Van Gogh’s life, artistry and impact, all free with Phipps admission.

Mon., July 29 – Sun., Aug. 4, guests will receive a free commemorative art print of Phipps’ stunning floral display inspired by Van Gogh’s “Self-Portrait with Straw Hat” painting. The keepsake is printed on 100% recycled stock and suitable for framing, while supplies last.

Visitors can also delve into the life of the masterful artist through featured events including:

  • Biophilia Pittsburgh: Van Gogh in the Garden Event: Thurs., Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m., Phipps Associate Director of Exhibits Jordyn Melino and Carnegie Museum of Art Associate Curator of Education Lucy Stewart discuss how nature inspired Van Gogh’s paintings and how Van Gogh inspired Phipps’ displays. R.S.V.P. required.
  • Van Gogh Movie Night: Fri., Aug. 2 at 7 p.m., Phipps will hold a free-with-admission film screening of Loving Vincent. Utilizing an unprecedented process in which each shot has been rendered as an oil painting in the master’s signature style, Loving Vincent explores Van Gogh’s life and work in a way you’ve never seen before. After the movie, see the Van Gogh in Bloom exhibit in a whole new light after dark, as Phipps is open until 10 p.m. R.S.V.P. required.
