Gorgeous Displays Showcase All-Star Specimens from Two of Phipps’ Finest Collections

Pittsburgh, PA — Starting Sat., Jan. 13, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens provides guests with a captivating journey in Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: Into the Mist. This year's all-new engaging displays feature outstanding orchids and brilliant bonsai placed amid an evocative combination of water, mist and special lighting that provide a whole new way to enjoy fascinating specimens. Orchids of different shapes, sizes and fragrances, as well as the exquisitely trained specimens in our tropical bonsai collection, will be sure to delight every guest who enters our glasshouse.

Exhibit Features

• Marvel at an 8-foot wall overflowing with mist as it glows with bold blue lighting in Palm Court 
• Watch a whimsical waterfall trickle down boulders surrounded by shelves of beautiful bonsai
• Admire collection orchids in dozens of pretty pinks, creams and yellows as you walk through the Sunken Garden
• Journey through a misty pass in the Serpentine Room inspired by Japanese culture
• See striking silver plant material among carefully crafted cascade bonsai   
• And much more! 

Guests can also enjoy the displays in our Garden Railroad: Pennsylvania Through the Four Seasons. This whimsical exhibit will divide our miniature world of trains, buildings and landscapes that showcase the four seasons as experienced in distinctive PA fashion, with a beach, a county fair and a bike trail among many other whimsical and interactive features. Featuring countless beloved Pennsylvania activities surrounded by a seasonal plant palette, our Garden Railroad is sure to honor our state with distinct features and landscapes. 

The fun doesn’t stop there! Illuminate your visit by stopping by our Winter Light Garden for Festive Nights of Winter Lights. To celebrate the success of Holiday Magic!, we’re letting our glowing outdoor gardens shine for a few more nights of festive wonder. On Friday and Saturday evenings in January, guests can enjoy a serene stroll along luminous orbs, trees, towers and fountains of light in our Outdoor and Children’s Discovery Gardens. 

Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: Into the Mist and Garden Railroad: Pennsylvania Through the Four Seasons run Jan. 13 – March 3, and Festive Nights of Winter Lights runs Fridays and Saturdays from 5 – 10 p.m. from Jan. 12 – 27. Member and nonmember tickets must be reserved in advance.
